In vitro inhibition of cyclooxygenases, anti-denaturation and antioxidant activities of Malian medicinal plants

Cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) is involved in the production of prostaglandins that sustain inflammatory process. Inflammatory cells release a number reactive species. Furthermore, oxygen species can initiate intracellular signaling cascades and enhance expression pro-inflammatory genes. The objective was to study cyclooxygenase protein denaturation inhibition antioxidant activity ten extracts from five plants. Cyclooxygenases inhibitory measured using Cayman Kit method bovine serum albumin. Ferric reducing power hydrogen peroxide scavenging were used evaluate capacity aqueous hydroethanolic extracts. COX-2 more important with extract X. americana (IC50 = 11.13 ± 1.24 µg/ml) T. macroptera 12.79 0.56 µg/ml). COX-1 strongly inhibited S. senegalensis. C. tinctorium showed strongest activities 86.61 1.22% 84.5 0.56% respectively. greatest effects on iron reduction observed (R2 0.996; IC50 29 macropteria 0.990; 35.46 varied 39.31 3.6 77.37 2.16 µg/ml. present concluded an activity, americana, tinctorium. Further studies are needed confirm anti-inflammatory effect these vivo. Key words: Americana, macroptera, cyclooxygenases, antioxidant, denaturation.
